1st Marriage of Henry Stevenson of Newark, Nottinghamshire

Hoping someone can help me.  On my ggrandfathers, Henry Stevenson, marriage certificate in Dec 1918 it states he was a widower. I can't seem to narrow the likey candidates down for his first wife.  I know in 1911 he was single living with his parents in Newark, Nottinghamshire (he was approx 20).  His fathers name was joseph.  There are no surviving army records for Henry so I cant look there. There are numerous results searching the bmds for marriages in nottinghamshire/derbyshire, I just cant seem to narrow the searches down.  Please can someone help?

Is this his second marriage with a middle initial of J

September qtr 1918
Stevenson    Henry J    (Spouse Longdon)

His second marriage was Aug 1918 in Sunderland to Alice Jane Young.  He had been posted to Sunderland during the war approx 1917 previous to that I have only ever found him in NewarK (where he was also born).  He also never had a middle name.

On the marriage certificate, does it give Henry's  Regiment and number, who were the witnesses

On his marriage certificate his reg no : 23507 - Corporal 4th Sherwood Foresters.  The witnesses were: A. Scholes and MA Henderson.  MA Henderson was a very close family friend I'm not sure who A Scholes was.
