Newspaper search - Cardiff library
« on: Tuesday 10 June 14 21:56 BST (UK) »
Hi,

About 17 years ago, I was given a photocopy of a picture of my Great-Uncle, Alfred Mazzie (1892-1917) who died in Belgium in WWI.

It was obviously taken from a newspaper (I don't know which one), and it is poor quality.

As technology has advanced since then, is anybody able to locate the paper that the photo was printed in and take a better image of the picture?

He died on 27th May 1917 and lived at Roath, Cardiff.

He was in the 6th Battalion South Wales Borderers.

So I would imagine that the publication would probably be in June or July 1917?

There is a short write-up about him in the Western Mail on Tuesday 19th June 1917, under "Heroes of Rank and File" but there is no picture.

This page wouldn't allow me to upload the photo, so if anybody is able to do this for me, I can show you the picture.

Thanks,

Darin (Newcastle, England).

Hi,

Wow - that is fantastic.

There is information about my other great uncles.

One (Louis Mazzie) was jailed for beating his mother in 1879.

How do you download the newspaper page?

I can't see how to do it - unless it is copyrighted and not allowed.

Thanks a lot for this,

Darin.

I have found you need to download whole page then clip what you want. Maybe an easier way but not found it yet. go to file, save page as...download page, and make sure it is saved in docs.

Found these earlier today, but thought you may have them as not what u wanted.

Found one with my GG grandfather today for slander cost him £75  :-X

Hi,
I guess  this is your tree with the picture in question(?) . I hope you don't mind me giving the link to the picture : http://www.wikitree.com/photo/jpg/Mazzei-17

Kind regards

It's worth checking back with the newspaper site every so often for your relatives as  they're adding more to it all  the time . I found a report on the inquest of one of my mum-in-laws g aunts just a couple of weeks ago that I know wasn't there when I looked weeks prior to that for it ( drowned in the Swansea docks) and also  found  one of my great grandfather trying to steal some ducks of all things ::)
