Hello... :)

I haven't added the information for William into my tree after 1851, as I was never absolutely sure it was the Southwell born William.
The birth year fits and him being born in Nottinghamshire, but the Canada & US confused me.

If you need any further Adlington info I will try and help, I have collected baptism and marriages etc from parish registers from Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire.

Sheila.

Hi Dizzifish

Your kind offer of help is very much appreciated, many online Adlington tree's are incorrect having William Sampson Adlington as the son of Richard and Ann , in fact his parents were William and Dorothy Adlington.

Hi Judi,

Thanks for the information you have given, it has helped in settling where William Adlington went to.... his brother Robert went to New Zealand.

I have a few Adlington's that married into our family tree and various Adlington Will's helped sort out our branches.

I haven't looked at the Adlington online trees in a long time as there are so many that are wrong.

As you said the tree's that have William Sampson Adlington as Richard & Sarah's son, when he belongs to William Adlington & Dorothy Sampson.... they were Quakers, their daughter Elizabeth married Richard Cadbury of the chocolate dynasty.

There are also many trees that have your Richard Adlington's parents as Jonathan Adlington & Catherine Welch, which is correct but all trees that I have seen give Jonathan Adlington (born 1773 & died 1849) parents as Jethro Adlington & Elizabeth Bramwell .....but, Jonathan was born at Winkburn with parents William Adlington who married an Ann Adlington at Winkburn in 1772.

Richard Adlington was buried at Southwell -13 Nov 1837.
Ann Cooling remarried in 1856.
Ann Cooling - baptised 11 Nov 1804 at Norton Disney, Lincolnshire, parents John Cooling &  Mary Waller who married 1796 Norton Disney.

All I can say is, be wary of any information from online trees!

Let me know how you go on and as I said, will help if I can.

Kind regards Sheila  :)

Hi dizzy

Can I just check you say Ann Cooling re married in 1856 ?

was it not Ann  Adlington nee DOWLING  born  1811 Skegby that remarried in 1856 to Richard Wood Bagshaw

she originally married Richard Adlington and they had

William Dowling Adlington 1835
Sarah Adlington 1840
Richard George Adlington 1850

I think her  Richard Adlington died Mansfield in 1849 or 1850

1841 census Richard and Ann with william and Sarah all in Skegby
1851 Census
Piece: 2123; Folio: 607; Page: 31;.......Widow with 3 children and Richard Bagshaw in the household her 2nd husband to be
1861 Census
Piece: 2425; Folio: 36; Page: 13;............remarried now to Richard wood Bagshaw , youngest son Richard George Adlington living with them.

I think it is Ann Dowling that remarried not Ann Cooling , just checking

Hi Judi,

Always check..... :D

The Richard Adlington who married Ann Downing on the 10th July 1834 in Blackwell, Derbyshire - was buried 31st July 1849 at Skegby, Nottinghamshire - Richard was baptised 22nd Nov 1772 at Tibshelf, Derbyshire, the son of William Adlington and Sarah Parsons.
Ann Downing /Adlington remarried  to Richard Wood Bagshaw 3rd April 1856 at Skegby.

Your Ann Cooling/Adlington remarried to William Sutton on the 4th Nov 1856 at Saint Mary',  Castlegate, York...

I have only just realised, on FreeBMD -  William Sutton has his page number missing, so he is not showing up -
Marriages Dec 1856 - Sutton  William -  York  9d   *
Marriages Dec 1856 - Adlington    Ann -  York  9d   84

They are here in 1861 - Piece3548/Folio 105/Page 18 - Dodsworth School, Bishop Hill, York.

Also with them is Ann's grandson, Robert Adlington Howard, who was the son of her and Richard's daughter Elizabeth Adlington - baptism 12th Sept 1832 at Southwell - Elizabeth married James Howard - 25 Feb 1854, Saint Mary Castlegate,York.

Ann & grandson Robert Adlington Howard are here in 1871

1871 - Piece 4745/Folio 32/Page 7 - St Andrewgate, St Andrew, York.

1881 - Ann Sutton/ Adlington nee Cooling is listed as an inmate of the Union Workhouse, Edge Sheffield Ecclesall Bierlow ( Yorkshire West Riding) - RG11 Piece 4640/Folio 159/Page 15
