Edinburgh Burial Help
« on: Tuesday 17 June 14 19:57 BST (UK) »
My gg cousin John William Mason, born in Sheffield, Yorkshire in 1854 was widowwed and living at 53, St Patrick Square. Edinburgh in 1901. Does anyone have access to death and burial records for Scotland - in particular for Edinburgh? I need to find when he died and if possible, where he is buried.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
Darry Nugent

Hi Daryl,

Seems his death certificate is on Scotland Peoples website. He died in 1931 aged 77,

3   1931   MASON   JOHN WILLIAM           M   77   ST ANDREW (EDINBURGH)   EDINBURGH CITY/MIDLOTHIAN   685/02 0013

It will cost you £7 for 30 credits on http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk and will cost you 1 credit to search and 5 credits to download the certificate.

Tom
Scotland - Buchanan, Thomson, Pat(t)erson, Stewart, Ritchie, Tracey
Ireland - Tracey, Conroy, Pat(t)erson.

Brilliant !
Thanks to each of you who replied.
I've tracked down the chap and his DC offers some interesting facts about the family. Just need to locate the grave although his wife is buried in Salford so he might have been transported there to be buried with her.

Hello Darryl,

If you contact Mortonhall Crematorium they should be able to tell you if he is buried in Edinburgh.

Supply them with the full name and date of death.

He died on 4th January at 27 Eyre Place Edinburgh and advised by his Grandson John R Gray.    No evidence of a Death Notice in the the Scotsman Archives on-line and a look at the Edinburgh Evening News fiche for a week after the 4th (not the best of quality) revealed nothing.      No mention in the Books of Remembrance at Seafield and Warriston crematorium and nothing  at Deceased on-line web site.

Thanks for the tip Frances
Morton Hall responded to my enquiry within 24 hours and provided me with everything I needed - absolutley brilliant.
Although there is no headstone on the grave, they gave me details of the adjoining headstones together with a plan. Again brilliant.
