Humphreys or Humphries, Brighton, Sussex UK c1830s - 1860s or later.

Trying to trace Elizabeth Sarah Humphreys or Humphries. Possibly born Brighton c1833. Baptised St Nicholas 1833. If the same mother of John Humphries born Brighton 1857. No later trace found so far. She may have had a brother, George John Humphreys b Brighton 1829, who seems to have gone to Hackney in East London and married Catharine Helen Allardice in1858. (d1867) Any information on Elizabeth Sarah sought as have been un-able to find a marriage or death for her. Any assistance appreciated.

Here is a possible baptism for her in 1833. Parents George Humphreys and Elizabeth.

Who were the witnesses on John bn 1857 marriage - do you have him on census prior to his marriage

Have you looked at two potential marriages in Southwark?
The first in 1864 has possible grooms Thomas Humphries or Christian Werner.
If she married Thomas then her name would have remained the same and the 1878 marriage might also be her. This time to John Young or John James Oxenham.

The 1864 marriage her father is given as James - occupation Fruiterer -she married Thomas Humphries

The 1878 marriage she was age 19 also father James

Wrong people I'afraid but thank you; We do have all details of John L Humphries b1857, my wife's Gt grandfather. We have him in Ringmer in 1871 (Living with a family called Potter which we know is correct from other information) but cannot find him (or her) in 1861. Apparently some census returns for Brighton missing? I have been through all the people you both mention; Our Elizabeth Sarah's father was George and mother Elizabeth. I think we have the right parents here.

You are right there are some census missing for 1861 Brighton -
601 - The Palace Brighton - Missing entirely.

What was the address on John Laings birth certificate

 Sorry I haven't got back sooner. The J L Humphries birth address was 24 Oriental Place Brighton. This was a 'rooming house' let off in suites of rooms run by a Mr Webster. Presumably rented for the purpose. No further connection there at all as far as found to date. Thank you, regards, TCS.
