Sigwarth in Marylebone / London
« on: Friday 20 June 14 16:41 BST (UK) »
Good afternoon from Germany,
this is my first visit here and i hope you could give me a helping hand.
Its the first time that i am searchin in the GB area, just found out, that a family member settled over to Great Britain.

Florian Sigwarth (maybe the spelling varies a little) was born 1842 here in Germany. Later the years he decided to settle over, so he married Catherine Moriarty in 1875 at Marylebone, London.
They had three children. Hyacinthe was born 1878 (exact date would be of interest), possibly died in 1965 in Greater London (at that time i heared, that she carried again her Mothers Maiden Name Moriarty). I also heared, that she worked as a Nurse in the census of 1911.
Her Sister Mary Ann or Ann Mary was born 1877 (also exact date would be of interest), i found some points, that she worked at the orphane / convent of St. Vincent de Paul, but they dont kept a register to get more details.
Their brother named Augustine Florian Sigwarth and he was born 1876 (also exact birth date would be of interest). I found some traces, that he shipped over 1909 to the USA, but also some notes, that he shipped earlier to Chile.
I guess, there are more families in London with the same or similar last name, so its a little tricky.

If someone can give additional hints, they are highly appreciated

Thanks for now
Robin Siegwarth

Hallo and welcome to Rootshat.
If you go to www.freebmd.org.uk and search on births with surname Sigwarth you will find 3 children registered in Marylebone from 1876 - 1878. These are Augustine Florian, Anne Mary and Hyacinthe Maria.
With the reference information from the birth registrations you can then go to www.gro.gov.uk and order copies of the birth certificates.

Good morning,

thanks for both of the informations you give.
The will was available on the net, so i got this information.
The birth-documents are available at the GRO, thats where i also got the marriage records for Florian and Catherine Moriarty.
Is there any way to get a lookup without the certificate ? I dont need that, i only need the information. i would prefer paying someone for the lookup instead of wasting money for a certificate i dont need

Robin

Morning. I'm afraid that there are very few certificates available online in the UK, and so they have to be purchased from the GRO. You can't see these without buying them . Ancestry do have a few London certificates, but not these ones as far as I can see. The children don't appear to have been baptised either, or if they were, the baptisms aren't on line.

anyway, thanks for your help.
i found some traces, that the son settled over 1906 or 1909 to the USA or Chile (got information on both, so i believe, they were from different persons), Mary Ann was at the St. Vincent de Paul convent, but they told me, that they dont had personal registers (what i cant believe) and Hyacinthe worked as a nurse, she might died in 1965.

Maybe post on the US board, to see if you can locate Augustine. He does not seem to be on last UK census.

Add a link to thread not to duplicate info/effort.

Source: Ellis Island

Possible?

Augustine Sigwarth
Great Britain, English
Last Place of Residence:    London, England
Date of Arrival:    Oct 28, 1909
Age at Arrival:  23y 6m   Male, Single
Ship of Travel:    Teutonic
Port of Departure:    Southampton
Manifest Line Number:    0012

Age is out by a decade but could be mistranscribed, maybe worth a shot to follow all leads, not many from UK same namesake.

Births Jun 1876
Sigwarth    Augustine Florian  Marylebone    1a   496

Or maybe he came back to UK? Info on death cert is only as good as the informant knows.

Possible Deaths Mar 1962
SIGWARTH    Augustine    74    Hendon    5e   587

hi Bob, Cas,

yes, quite a possibility. First i thought thats two different person but maybe he realy came back to London and died here. Will try to find out where he`s gone in the US.
What i wonder, is, that on https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/JFML-S32   the age at travel is exact 10 years younger then Florian was. Maybe only a mistake by description, even the adress in London is exakt the same, where the family lived before... very confusing
