Family Search Website
« on: Friday 16 July 04 08:40 BST (UK) »
I am probably going to ask a stupid question here but can anyone tell me whether the Family Search website is continually updated or not.

The reason I am asking is that I have it saved in my Favourites and just go straight into it from there. It has occurred to me that I could be missing out on new entries by not logging into the site every time.

I feel really thick that I have to ask this!!!

Hi Dinkey,
It shouldn't make any difference that you're going in from your favorites, if there are updates you will still get them.

Dinkey,

Dependent upon your browser and set up you might be advised to click the refresh button once you access the site. This will ensure that any cashed pages you have are updated.

Dinkey,

It's not such a daft question at all.  ;)

When you save a webpage under your "favourites" (or "bookmark" on my particular browser) it's saving the ADDRESS of the web page that you found of interest.

It's usually a good idea to go to the "home page" (start page) of a website before you bookmark the site though, because a lot of sites change a great deal.

For example, if you bookmarked this particular message, it's address is:
http://www.rootschat.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=6908.0
(if you look at the "Address bar" at the top) BUT if you did bookmark just this message, it would only show you this message and no others, unless you chose to browse around from there. I hope this makes sense?

Happy RootsChatting!

Thanks Ange & Adrian

At least  I don't feel that I might be missing anything now.

Trystan

Thanks for your good tip. I realised that I had saved the Search for Ancestors page in favourites. I have now changed it to save the Homepage.

Regards
