Farrell / Westmeath
« on: Wednesday 25 June 14 20:21 BST (UK) »
Hi.
I'm am searching my family history on my fathers side. My father was Patrick Farrell a stone cutter by trade, was born in Multyfarnham, Co Westmeath in 1884, lived in Ballinasloe Co Galway, in 1901
after which he joined the army  1st Batt Connaught Rangers served in India before going to Gallipoli, he survived and returned to India discharged in India, returned to Ireland, where he joined the IRA. He had two brothers John and James both were killed in Gallipoli in 1915.
I am looking for his military record, he may have been an officer Lieutenant or Sergeant Major, and possible a Quartermaster. His father was Denis and all the family were stonecutters Denis had a quarry in Multyfarnham for some years, mothers name was Roe, any information help or guidance would be welcome.

Hi,

His records appear to be available(4pages) on Findmypast in the Army service records available to view with credits.
Family members mentioned fit including father.

Cathy
Added.... these were only records for a short time in the Army 1905/06 so he must have enlisted again later.

There is a mention again on Findmypast for a Patrick Farrell in The Irish Times
Sinn Fein Rebellion Handbook 1916/17
I don t know quite what information that record holds or indeed if it is the correct Patrick.
