Hello, and welcome to RootsChat!

If you haven't already done so, a good way to make surname connections with other members is to enter your surname interests in the Surname Interests Table (SIT), and to check there whether others are researching these names.

This can be found at http://surname.rootschat.com/ , there is a link to it under "Your Tools" at the bottom of each Rootschat page.

The more people who enter their surnames, the more chance there will be of making a connection!

I will move your query to the Australia board where people with local knowledge may hopefully be able to help you.

Hi Ross and Wivenhoe,
Thankyou so much for your research.
We are the new owners of the venue previously know as the Beehive, Hawthorn.
We are wanting to rebrand under it's original title.
The pub has pub was established 1853 - and the current building stands since 1882.
The list of people  are the previous owners and licences'.
Founded by James Colvin.
I guess what I am hoping for is a descendent may have a image or a story of the pub.
The usual websites have been searched and digitally the venue is very illusive.
As you can tell - I am extremely green to genealogy but I have had the support from so very experienced people.
I also have no idea how to manoeuvre this website  :)

Yes Wivenhoe - those are the children of James Colvin - though our records show James died 24th Feb, 1987.
Wife Margaret (nee Ball) Died 25th Dec 1897.
The names of the children are correct.
Margaret inherited the beehive briefly then it was passed onto their 18yold son William.
William only held the licence for 3 years then it was registered to - John Kearney 1885/96
Then after John died (at residence) it was passed onto his brother in law - Patrick Carmody. (1896)

The next licencee stated was John Victor Quirk - but our records stated he held the  pub from 1926-37.
Though this information we have not searched for extensively as we have primarily been searching for an image of the venue.
The licencees records we have from the Boroondara Local history website.

Thankyou Wivenhoe - I am a local and have visited the grave.
We have quite a lot of what is available on record of the Colvins, there is nothing of the "story" of the people

I had better post this before another person replies

Thanks Cando...
Yes - the society have been kind enough to join the search.
They are as baffled as we are that there is no image

Do you have street address for the hotel....might be possible to find something.

James Colvin  Hotelkeeper Hawthorn 24 Apr 1879 18/784

VPRS 28/P0, unit 217.....page 7 of 14  gives death 4 Feb 1879
VPRS 28/P2, unit 89...last page of 6 names Beehive Hotel

seems to be some variations on the date from different sources....?
