700 Hucknall Road Nottingham - was it a workhouse?
« on: Monday 30 June 14 13:35 BST (UK) »
Hi
I have just received a copy of my grandmothers birth certificate from 1905 and there are no fathers details given and my Nan's surname is that of her mothers maiden name as on the certificate. Place of birth is shown as 700 Hucknall Road Nottingham and this is the same address as listed for the informant an A.H Measures (I think this is what the surname says) so as she was born at the same address as the informant I am wondering if this was a work house or place for unmarried mothers.

Thanks any help would be appreciated.

Have you looked at the page for the workhouse from the link I gave, that would normally give information on what is available

Thanks Rosie,

it has details about a few other workhouses in Nottingham but not the Hucknall Road one. I'll have to do abit more research to see if they have any records anywhere ie admission discharge etc...... 1st time trying to find details on a workhouse.

I have gt grandparents that died there. In 1921 and 1929 if you put the address in google search , what comes up is  Nottingham City Hospital  ,im almost sure they were not  in the workhouse there.
