Mining Accident reports site please
« on: Monday 27 June 05 07:34 BST (UK) »
Hello

Wonder if anybody can help me please, is there a site that has names of people involved in mining accidents and the causes.  I am interested in the Aberaman/Aberdare Pit and any accidents that might have occurred around 1912 right up until it was closed

My grandfather Albert Edward Bailey, survived an accident.  The cause was apparently the material that the pit props were made of, I believe that the props were made of metal, rather than wood.

So little is known about this story, it is hard to know where to start.  Any help or advice would be really appreciated. I hope that I have covered what you need to know.

regards
Glowray

Glowray,

One site to try is

The Coal Mining History Resource Center which is home to the National Database of Mining Deaths and Injuries

http://www.cmhrc.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/

I can't find anything else specifically on Aberdare from a quick google around the web, but there are a lot of welsh mining web sites which may have useful links, (I only found the above link by accident.)
