My grand uncle jack (john) teehan was taken from his home near thurles(ballingarry) county tipperary Ireland by the black and tans in the early 1920s and incarcerated in wormwood scrubs jail. Is it possible to find out more about this?

Hi Mairead,
I am trying to make similar enquiries about my grandfather Frank Shouldice -- he spent time at various prisons around England and Wales from 1916-1922 but I'm not having much luck getting information about prisoners in that period. Did you have any joy?
Best wishes,
Frankie

Hi,
Just saw your messages.
type in black and tans prisoners with the names you have.
there is a pdf file
BMH.WS 1511
I just got it and when I went back to the site list it's blank.
It's nearly 100 pages.
In Wales they were held in Frongoch, all that is there now is a stone with a plaque stating what was there. It was an old distillery.

gives various databases you can research. Pensions were available so there are records available. I cannot remember the series I have seen but the volunteer had outlined his service in some detail.

Irish and UK newspaper archives may also give names etc for people being jailed.
