When sorting through some old papers, (a death cert) I discovered that my Great Aunt Polly (Mary) suffered an unpleasant death in 1985, aged 90. She had always locked herself in the bathroom when taking a bath, as she had untreated advanced breast cancer, (had refused to have treatment) in both breasts, which was unknown to her family, except for my grandmother, (her sister - who was sworn to secrecy) and she had wanted to keep it from her hubby, my Uncle John. She had very large breasts, and always wore a big bra, so I guess he had never seen them since she got the cancer, so didn't have a clue about it! She only had a bath when there was no-one else in the house except maybe my grandmother.
One day, while home alone and taking a bath, she forgot to lock the door, and when her husband got home and went into the bathroom, she was lying unconscious in the bath, with her bra on, the water cold, and he thought she had drowned. He called the ambulance, who took her to the hospital! On her death certificate, the cause of death is noted as Bronchopneumonia - 3 days! So sad! If only she had told my uncle, their grown daughter, or allowed my Nan to tell him about the cancer earlier and get treatment for that, maybe then she wouldn't have died this way! Very sad! 🙏🙏🌺🌺
