Petition to put mothers' names on marriage certificates

I received this petition from change.org.  I signed it not only because of the need for equality and natural justice, but also on behalf of future family historians!  :)

I have signed this, which is unusual for me, as I don't normally sign petitions. I think it is important, there are lots of single mothers out there raising children with no help from fathers, why should their name appear on the certificate and not the mothers? Incidently, I am not a single mother, my children are lucky enough to have a lovely caring father, but we are both raising them and my name is as significant to our children and any future generations as his.

Is this not already being considered by the powers that be? I read the other day that they were working on the practicalities of changing the forms

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
