Thomas Lewis b. abt 1822 Mohun, Devon (1871 Census)

Hi All,
 the above named is shown on the 1871 census as a Mariner from Devon, however, I know he married in 1854 in Hull, Yorkshire, but cannot find him on the 1841, 1851 or 1861 census any help or advice would be greatly appreciated

I presume you have his wife and family on the 1861 census in Hull ? perhaps Thomas was at sea ?

His wife was Sarah b. 1831 in Hull, if he was at sea will there be a census taken by the master?

Hi Colin yes you would think so don't know how that goes if he was overseas ....is that your tree on Ancestry as I can see by the marriage certificate his father was also a mariner

There are a few trees and they all seem to have the same problem finding him 1851.1861 they do have him in the 1841 census but that would need to be checked very carefully ........I looked it up so here it is
Thomas Lewis born abt 1821 Devon England aged 20 occupation hard to make out its either boot maker or boat maker ? also a Sarah Lewis aged 22, ( which we know is not his wife ) William Farmer 25, Mary Gayne  20, Mary Rendel 45, Susan Perry
Civil Parish St Andrews Devon ..Registration district Plymouth
