Hi Jacquie in Canada
I haven't been able as yet to find his records on FindMyPast, but as soon as I have written to you I will have a look.

If he gave the address as Wilmot Buildings   in 1889 his father was at Wickham St Lambeth 1891, that accounts to why he wasn't with the family in 1891

Now FindMyPast have changed their format I don't think I can check an address as we used to

I found the 1891 census this afternoon, the 1901 and 1911 earlier

I don't understand why I cannot find any of them on 1881 after sitting here for hours  trying every which way I can, even by listing the children without a surname

I also cannot fathom out why I cannot find Henry, he was, I think registered under his mothers maiden  name but seems to have taken on his mother's husbands name, Edermaniger, that was until 1901 when he is in a hospital under the name of Maniger, in Canada they adopted that name

Huge thank you Jacquie, I am filling in gaps that have been un-left for years

regards

Louisa Maud

PS  I have just searched through my 1891 census discs for the Wilmot Buildings, a family by the name of Murphy lived there in 1891, foiled again ?

I had a look at Henry's attestation papers, I also checked address at Wilmot Buildings,

I do wonder if Henry Thomas Edermaniger/Maniger/ Burford was actually brought up by someone else, I cannot find this family of  Edermanigers/Maniger on 1881, he should have been on that census

So I think I am going to call it a day for the time being, I have had lots of help and I seem to have got onto the Henry Thomas trail which isn't leading me very far as to where he was prior to 1889, although I must admit my initial query was with his daughters deaths in Canada

I must thank you very much for your help, much appreciated

Regards

If Henry's father was not John, then I can't really see him listing John as his father and next-of-kin on his Attestation Papers if he had been raised by someone else. And he did list his father's address as the Willmotts Building.

Another possibility is the family wasn't home when the enumerator called or that they were just missed on the 1881 census.

Hi Louisa Maud. Fascinating family!

This looks like it might be Henry and his family in the 1881 Census .....

London, Newington, St Mary Newington, District 6, Pages 35 and 36, Family 232.

12 Horse and Groom Ct (same address as in Albert's baptism record from 1880)

John Maneger (?; hard to read) 32 Tinplate Worker b. Borough
Elizabeth Wife 30 b. London
? (can't decipher - possibly Anna) Daur 12 b. London
Harry Son 9 b. London
Jack Son 7 b. London (John?)
Charley Son 5 b. London
Albert Son 3 b. London
Laurence 8mo b. London

I don't know how the family is indexed and had no better luck than Louisa Maud using various name combinations when searching. I went looking through the district descriptions for the street they were living in when Albert was baptized, went page by page through said district, and there they were. I wonder if the pages might have been missed in the indexing process.

LM, are you aware that Henry's brother John was also in the Rifle Brigade, having enlisted in 1893? NOK Father John Maniger of 1 Wickham St Lambeth; Elder brother Henry Thomas Maniger c/o Rifle Brigade. His record is also on Find My Past.

Oh what a find, thank you very much

So I am right, Henry was born  before marriage to Elizabeth in  1874 Bethnal Green and I do believe he was registered as a Burford/Barford.

Lawrence, shown as Laurence,   felt sure he would have popped up as he was only months old by 1881, also Harry, not Henry, Jack not John, oh how they deceived me !!

I will try to do an alteration when I check later

I am so happy that this family have been found, specially Henry Thomas, he is the line I was hunting, sadly this man died in 1910, very sad.

Yes, PB, they are a fascinating family, we almost got to Toronto in 1969 to see one of these "girls", was booked and all sorted but sadly we didn't get their due sickness,

Thank you hugely to all who have helped

I am a happy Louisa Maud

The child born circa 1869 is
Sarah Ann

Elizabeth aged 20 u/m, daughter of head
Sarah Ann daughter aged 2
I wasn't sure if this was Elizabeth's daughter initially but it seems she is
All living with Elizabeth's parents and siblings

If only they would stick to their correct names and surnames which has been a real struggle to find

You are most welcome. I am very pleased to have been able to find them for you.

PB

Edited to add: it looks like the family is indexed as Manyer and on second look Laurence should be Lawrence. He is indexed that way.

Hello!  I am researching a photograph I've found, one that depicts Jesse Stilwell (seated), and my inquiries brought me here.  I figured I would share this with you.  :)  I am also looking for death / burial information and have had no luck so far.  If I find anything else, I will let you know!
