Glasgow City Poorhouse- help required Please.
« on: Wednesday 09 July 14 22:21 BST (UK) »
Hi , My ancestor Isabella Walker died on 17 Oct 1878 at the Glasgow City Poorhouse.  As I live in Canada I can't visit the Mitchell Library in person so I am wondering if anyone can tell me please how I can get hold of the poorhouse records for this person. I have emailed the library but not had any reply . I would be most grateful for any help.
Many thanks
Jan

Hi Jan

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

Sorry to say...the only way to this info is either a personal search (a researcher or another person doing their own research?) or staff at the Mitchell Library looking up this info.

As you have likely realised, none of this info is available online... :-\

Hi Jan and Welcome to Rootschat :)

I think from memory it takes a while for the Mitchell Library to get back in touch .... they posted to me my gggrandfathers Poorhouse Records and numerous other stuff over the years.  Have you checked your SPAM folder just in case?

Good luck with your quest.

Cheers
KHP

Hi , Many thanks for your replies. Hopefully the Glasgow archives will reply with some detail or how to go about getting someone to look for me.
I appreciate your help.
Kind regards
Jan

Hi Davie, That's fantastic!! Thank you SO much. That is so kind of you and I really appreciate this.Isabella was born around 1831 in Alloa Clackmannanshire and was married to John Paul in 1850 in Dunbarton then after he died in 1862 she married Hugh Walker in 1863. She was living in Glasgow in the 1871 census with her children. She died aged 48 in the Glasgow city poorhouse of TB. We don't know a lot more about her. Any information about her and her family would be wonderful. Let me know if you need anything else.
Thanks again
Jan
