« on: Thursday 10 July 14 11:26 BST (UK) »
This is my first topic here - not sure of outcome but here goes!!
looking to find Hungerford family connections in Ireland (19th - 20th centuries - North and South) and I believe Australia.
Names which crop up are Richard, John, Thomas, Ryder.

John George Hungerford s/o Ryder Hungerford and Frances Butler died 15 Jan 1925 in Qld.

That marriage was in 1886 Jo  :) so maybe not connected with arrival in 1889

But that was a good find with the distinctive Ryder name Jo  :)

There was also Captain Emmanuel Hungerford, lieutenant of the 22nd foot and captain of Cork militia who arrived with 17 family members in 1828 on Alexander Henry.  They settled near Maitland in NSW.  It seems less likely than your find Jo.  There was a Thomas and a John and a Robert Richard among the sons but otherwise ...

Here is a link to an obit of one son which gives some good background http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article71504400

I just mention it as the Irish Hungerford's were quite famous (and prolific) pioneers of the area

cheers,
  Ros

Hi Debbie and welcome.
As Ros says, we are just guessing and perhaps posting information you already have as it is freely available online.

Irish census 1901 Ryder Hungerford

And another 1901 Ryder Hungerford

Hi,

Welcome to RootsChat.

New South Wales is one of the eight separate jurisdictions that cover the continent of Australia.  I can see that the NSW State Records Office has various holdings for the surname HUNGERFORD, but of course, without some more clues from you, there’s actually  no way for me to know if these are for your ancestors, or belong to another Hungerford family tree.

So, for example, searching for HUNGERFORD as a keyword at NSW SRO (TWO links below) finds many files, including this small sample:

Richard Colin Campbell HUNGERFORD  died 13 Feb 1931, his occupation:  gentleman.
Richard Colin Campbell HUNGERFORD associated with 50 acres of land
Richard Becher HUNGERFORD, died 3 Nov 1932, his occupation : company director
John Beecher HUNGERFORD, of Maitland, a farmer was sequested 13 Feb 1850
