Researching Deaths
« on: Saturday 12 July 14 17:48 BST (UK) »
I know I am not new to this website but I am new to this type of research. A friend of mine has asked me to look into the likelihood that her estranged father has died. She came across a online notice of the death of her grandmother from earlier this year and her father is listed as the late.... (I have to tread of egg shells with this so at this point I wouldn't wish to give any names).

Knowing that you cannot obtain death certificates from 2005 to present day can you advise on what is the best way to research this. She also believes that at some point he may have changed his name - can this also be researched?

It is a delicate subject but any information on how to search for information would be deeply appreciated.
Name Interests: Holland, Marshall, Townrow, Taylor.

Stanmapstone's answer here tells you where you can view indexes after 2005

Yes you can, the only restriction is that for recent events registered within the last 6 months (for marriages this period is extended to 18 months), applications for certificates should be made to the Register Office in the district where the birth, death or marriage took place. It is indexes that are not online after 2006.
