iam still searching for information on my ggrandfather james bucknall  born wolverhampton in 1846 i have not beenable to get his birth certificate however i do have a marriage certificate for his marriage to catherine ormiston. it says that james father was called james i did get in touch with the registar office in south shields and i they checked that both james didn't have another name just james. i also checked the census and still can't find out where james father lived in wolverhampton or even if or when they came to jarrow. on some of the census it states that my ggggrandfather james was born in wolverhampton.i haven't been able to find a marriage for my ggggrandfather james because theres nobody in the family who know what james mother was called also nothing about the family. thank you for the replies i recieved up to now

Right  the first evidence you have is James marriage certificate? I guess none of the witnesses were from his family?

He said he was 29 at his marriage, so possibilities.
 He was already married to someone else and he changed his name to avoid being found out.
 His father was a figment of his imagination.
 He wasn't born in Wolverhampton.
 He was on the run from the police.
 There could be any number of reasons he didn't tell the truth.

What was his occupation on his marriage certificate?

BTW In 1841 there is a James Bucknall age 20 a stone miner living in Wolverhampton.
