I can find him on the 1841 and 51 censuses with his family, but never again in England CAROL
To be exactly correct, Walter BARLEYCORN is not with his family in 1851.
He is at 47 Church St, Mitcham Surrey, a Vicarage, where he is a footman in a large household of Henry F. WHARTON who is the vicar of Mitcham. There is a large group of assorted servants and domestic workers.
There are a number of children, not all of them the offspring of the vicar and his wife Mary and they are aged under 14 years.
He was born Tooting, Surrey. Is that the same as Clapham?
In 1851 his parents John and Elizabeth BARLEYCORN aged 56 and 60 respectively, are without other family members at 45 Salvatore St, Tooting Surrey. John is a gardener.
In 1841, when Walter is 11 years old, he is living with his parents and sister Elizabeth who is 22.
For interest's sake, in 1861, the vicar, Henry WHARTON, either is elsewhere or has died and Mary, whose status is wife, is living with her children at 35 Willesden Villas, Willesden Middlesex.
She is a "landed proprietor" as occupation.
The large servant entourage (including Walter BARLEYCORN) has disappeared as have the youngsters whose surnames were not WHARTON.
