York Street Dublin
« on: Saturday 19 July 14 18:03 BST (UK) »
My mother (Mary Elizabeth O'Connor) and her siblings were born in York Street Dublin in the early 1900's. How it is best to research her birth and the early lives of the family....and to push back in time even further? Has anyone worked before in this area?

Thank You
Sean

If you give us her parents names we may be able to help you out, unfortunately the new Irish Genealogy Civil Index is down till further notice, this new index has been a brilliant asset however as i say down at moment.
Parents marriage year would also help if you know it.

York Street is just off Stephens Green in the South Dublin civil registration district.
IrishgGenealogy.ie has baptism records but around 1900 would be the cut off point for most.
http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/
The civil index is searchable for free here (1864-1958)
https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1408347
also if you already have her parents names you can search the 1901 and 1911 census

Hi Sean
This looks like it could be your Mum's birth registration. You may have all this info already and not need to get the cert, but just in case.
First Name    Mary Elizabeth
Last Name    O'Connor
Year    1900
Registered Quarter/Year    Oct - Dec 1900
Registration District    Dublin South
Volume    2
Page    600
To go further, would be important to have her parents names.

Thanks for info hasta...but we believe mum was born between 1912 and 1917 but we have no paper proof. Some of her siblings were def born before her. I know her names are common but just trying to pin her down. Should have asked more questions when she was alive :(

Thanks

Hi Sean
If you are talking about the new civil index site that dathai mentioned, I'm afraid it's been removed due to Data Protection concerns and unlikely to return in the very near future until all the 'legals' are sorted out. If you have your mum's parents names that would be a good place to start for the moment.
