Thank you Debra, I logged on and ordered a copy of the file.  I have been checking online and have contacted the GRO in Dublin and they have had a search for me but no records.  I looked at the microfilm site and it states that pages 29-32 are missing for births september quarter 1892, this could be why.

Just following on from Debra's comments about the second given name, John, I do not see it used again on the Victorian indexes in connection with his marriage and registration of a daughter.

IF of course I am tracking the right chap ::)

Yes you are following the right chap.  On his death certificate it states Edward John, but these are filled in from information supplied to the informant and not always right as were the ages of the children of the marriage.  My mother chose to use this age cause it made her younger til she was caught out on her birth certificate.

Hi Christine. Having trouble replying to your message other than on the public forum. I have no photos of my grandfather and the info I have is the same as yours, All I can tell you is that he jumped ship in Melbourne and stayed. He was in the 1st world war and registered with the army. I knew he played the violin and mum used to say he was very good looking, however that's all I can tell you. If you contact Debra, she has my e-mail address so could you contact me there, I can't send you a private message as it won't let me.
I did check out the O'Keefe family in Faythe, they were living in Faythe House which is now a Guest House, they supplied malt ??? to the hotels. They no longer live there. There was another family called O'Keefe as well but I haven't traced them. Please stay in touch.
