Mistyrose,

I have a transcript for Gloucesterhsire, Wiltshire, Somerset & Bristol, but I am having real difficulty finding this William Newman.  Is there a Fairford in Wiltshire - I can only find one in Gloucestershire.  Also this transcript has an index, but unless William was the Head of the household, he may not appear in it.  Can you help me by giving an approximate age or his possible birthplace?  I may be able to track him down then.

Nell

I really don't like having to say this, but I have gone cross-eyed looking at this transcript and I cannot find William Newman at all.  The piece no you gave me (HO107/1968) covers many parishes, all in Gloucestershire as far as I can make out(therefore many different files in the transcript) one of which is Fairford.  Unlike the transcript for Wiltshire, the transcriber has not included folio numbers and using a word search facility failed to show up any William Newman aged 7 born in Somerford Keynes.  The transcript is not perfect and I'm going to have to give up on this.  Suggest you put a post on the Gloucestershire board and see if anyone else can see him.

Really sorry  :(

Nell

Hello Nell,
Thank you for looking. I have now found other members of this family in the Fairford district they include:

Thomas Newman 35 Hd b. Poulton Wilts.
        Maryann              35 Wi  b. Oaksey
        William                  7  S   b. Somerford Keynes
        Francis A               3  D   b. Somerford Keynes

As the father I am searching for for my William is a Joseph Newman I don't think this is the right family.
I will just have to keep looking.  Mistyrose41

Hello
Just joined - this may not be the right William Newman, but my gg-grandfather William Newman was born  1842 at Preshute, Wiltshire, the son of Joseph Newman.  I have more details if this might be the right William.
Regards
