Search for Looby

Hi All,
Searching for anyone that can help in information in the families of Arthur Stevenson Looby, born in New Zealand in 1908, son of Euphemia Looby, details unknown.

His birth record on the New Zealand BMD site says father NR - assume that means not recorded.

Have you tried looking for a marriage certificate for him to see if there are any details of his father?

Searched BDM, all roads seem to end with Euphemia. Don't know where else to look?

I've tried searching for other Looby births on the NZ site, also any marriages for a Euphemia Looby - but nothing

Do you have a copy of the actual birth certificate?  There should be more info than on the index (including Euphemia's age and birthplace, if I'm not mistaken).

Euphemia Veronica Louby married Henry Joseph Darroch in 1913 - perhaps?
Euphemia Veronica Darroch died in 1935 aged 49 which puts her birth at around 1886 - would have been 22 at Arthur's birth.

From Henry's war records (viewable at Archway), it appears there were no children from this marriage.  Euphemia's address is given as at a hospital in Masterton (nurse or patient?) and his next of kin is given as his father.

Euphemia is a very Scottish sounding name,as is Stevenson ( or Stephenson) as his middle name.

His birth is indexed on Ancestry as Lobby.
1908 in Palmerston North.

Hello there. Your query regarding Euphemia Veronica LOUBY... she was my mother's grandmother. Euphemia's son, John Darroch, was Mum's father. He was Euphemia's son by her first marriage. She believes that Euphemia's maiden name was Thynne. She had a second son named Kenneth Rangi Darroch, born about 1913.
We would be really interested to find out any more information about Euphemia's background, as Mum has been trying for a long time. Mum does have a copy of her death certificate.
