Craigie family of Lochee
« on: Wednesday 30 July 14 14:49 BST (UK) »
Hi,
If anyone is researching this family I would like to hear from them.
I am trying to find details of David Craigie born 1884 in Aberdeen.
Not sure when the family moved to Lochee but they were there in 1901 and 1911.
Regards
Bob.

Hello Lochee,
i have an Agnes Craigie who married into the Patullo family. She was born in Abernyte in 1791 and died in Cottown in 1866. She married circa 1814 to George Patullo. Abernyte is nor far from Lochee/Dundee. Any chance of a connection.

Hi, Jack Gee,
Sorry for not getting back sooner.
The Craigie that I was trying to research was David Craigie born 1884 in Aberdeen.
He was my great uncle, brother of my paternal grandmother Catherine Jenkins Craigie born in Lochee 1877. Their parents were James Craigie, born Blairgowrie, Perthshire 1845 and Alice Elizabeth Jenkins, born Aberdeen 1854.
David was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal in 1915 serving with the Seaforth Highlanders.
I haven't gone any further back, as I am still working out my paternal grandfathers line.
Sorry I couldn't be any more helpful.
Regards
Bob.

A very distinguished Craigie, born in 1867 in Dundee, was William Alexander Craigie the great linguist and dictionary editor.

His parents James Craigie and Christina Gow were married in 1851 at Meigle.

According to the Commonwealth War Graves site William died on 16 Oct 1915 and is buried at Sucrerie Military Cemetery, Colincamps, Somme ( plot 1 AA 6). He was a private in the Seaforth Highlanders ( regt number 9999).

Thomas McKim (Mackim) also appears to have served with the Seaforth Highlanders. He was a sergeant ( Reg no 4077). He died from wounds on 22/7/1917 but I can’t find any info on where he is buried/ commemorated. According to the Register of Soldiers Effects,  his War gratuity was paid to his widow Margaret.
ADD he is buried at Coxyde Military Cemetery ( location one F eight)

Thank you so much for all the information. Very helpful  :)
I shall pass it onto the school in the hope they can fit in a visit and pay their respects to William and Thomas whilst visiting Flanders and the Somme.
Every bit of info is very much appreciated by us.
many thanks again
Laurie
