Kilkenny Place Name Needs Deciphering
« on: Friday 01 August 14 08:39 BST (UK) »
Dear Rootschatters,  :)

Would any kind person please assist with solving a place name in County Kilkenny ?

Source Citation: State Records Authority of New South Wales; Kingswood New South Wales, Australia; Persons on bounty ships (Agent's Immigrant Lists); Series: 5316; Reel: 2136; Item: [4/4790].

For James Purcell 28yrs arrived NSW, Australia 27 Aug 1850 per "Lord Stanley". Am unable to understand the name of the town or district he emigrated from in Kilkenny on the shipping index.

Would be extremely grateful to anyone able to solve this mystery,  ???  ???

Pilgrims Progress   :)

Perhaps Kilbeg....

Written Kilbegne; there is a Hoxne in Suffolk that is pronounced Hox-un. Is there a Kilbeggan or similar in Kilkenny?

Could be Josey, though it does look like is is spelled Kilbegne, possibly the place name got lost in translation.  :-\

Just to make it more difficult
On Griffith's there are Purcell's living in both.
William in Ida
Philip in Crannagh
