Dewsbury 1851 Boocock
« on: Tuesday 28 June 05 11:50 BST (UK) »
I am looking for the entry - presumably in the Dewsbury area - which shows a James BOOCOCK born about 1848/9, whose birth was registered at Dewsbury in March quarter of 1849.  (And for his parents who I am hoping were Jonathan aged about 25 born Pudsey, possibly a Clothier,  and Ellen, aged about 22.  (Not yet traced marriage).
Please can you tell me if there is any sign of the family in the 1851 Index?
Thank you,   David Bennett.

Hi

Can I ask?  do you have the birth cert for this yong man James Boocock born 1848/9 Dewsbury?

Or are yu working on hunches?

As there was a James Boocock born right year and birth place but to parents Joespeh and Martha visible in both the 1851 and the 1861 census.  Joseph was born 1811 in skelboro?

And Martha 1815 Midgley

can you let me know if you want more of this family?

Wendy

Dear Wendy,
Thanks for your reply.
I wouldn't go so far as to say I was working on a hunch - more grabbing at straws!
I am trying to locate a James b. circa 1848/9 whose parents were Jonathan b.1826 in Pudsey and Ellen b. c.1829.
The only one on freebmd is the one in Dewsbury and since the father was in Pudsey on 1841 but no trace on 1851 I was hoping this was them.
Clearly it isn't!  I know they were in USA later and it looks as if Jonathan left UK and went to USA - perhaps having married before going but again no trace on freebmd.
Thanks anyway for your help.
David Bennett.

Hi Dave

What else do you have that is definate for this young man?

also bear in mind that the census i looked on is not fully transcribed.   And that one was for the Kirlees area that covers Dewsbury.

If by chance he was born Pudsey like his father then there would be a different one available whether someone has it or not is your guess and mine.

There is also on the off chnace that  his birth wasn't registered as it was before it became LEGAL to registers BMD's.

Bear it mind and get back to me when you can with any definate like whenhe was in the US maybe.

I am interested in further information that might be available on the Joseph Boocock mentioned in your e-mail of June 28, 2005.  I have dates 1811-1880 (Batley-Batley), married to Martha (possibly nee Eastburn) 1816-1875 (Midgley-Dewsbury).  I do not have marriage details or parents of either.  Any information that you might have access to would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there

Think I have found your Boocock (Bocock) of Pudsey

Jonathan Boocock born 25th May 1826 at Low Town Pudsey
parents Isaac and Elizabeth (Betty)
c at St Lawrence Parish Church, Pudsey.
Also found 2 brothers for him
Emanuel Boocock born 24th October 1823 parents Isaac and Betty

William Boocock born 25th July 1818 c on 23rd August 1818 parents
Isaac and Betty, Low Town, Pudsey.

It then becomes a little weird as I then found

James Boocock born 9th July 1845 with parents Isaac and Betty. So if
that was Jonathans son I dont know why the Grandparents are
signing the registers for them???
This was also at Low town  Pudsey and in the same church St Lawrence.

This means Betty was having children for nearly 30 years but maybe thats
why you think Jonathan was James Dad, maybe he had to become the Dad
as Betty and Isaac  were too old to look after a baby?? Whatever the reason I still feel that Jonathan was related either as a brother or the father of James and maybe for some reason couldnt get to the Registar or Christening?

Just a little more about Isaac.
He was born on 16th January 1787 in Pudsey and his parents were called Isaac and Martha Farrer.
Isaac snr b 6/2/1757  had a Father called Emanuel.
This line of your Boococks seem to have lived in the Pudsey area since about 1730

I have the Midgleys and Binks coming from Pudsey in my tree and  I
thought the name Boocock sounded familiar to me as your family lived near my family in Low Town, Pudsey and I had seen them on my travels looking for my family.
Hope this helps a little

Thanks for the responses.
Strictly speaking it's not my family but the family of an Alan BOOCOCK who now lives in Kuala Lumpur.  His ancestors ran Allanbrigg Mill at the bottom of Lowtown and I recognise namy of the names you mention from our earlier research.
A lot has happened since 2005 and Alan now has quite full details of his family but would no doubt welcome an exchange of information.

Hi David
Sorry about that it took hours to find it as well lol.
I will send it to Alan and see if there is anything he
hasnt discovered.
Hope you get your man soon
regards
Sandymc

p.s Just one query about my info is you mentioned that Jonathan was born in about 1824 in Pudsey. The Jonathan I found was the only one born around that time in Pudsey and I used a few sources to find him??
I can understand the confusion about James but Jonathan I felt was who you were talking about?

Sorry but I cannot now remember who I was looking for at the time - only that it was early days in the search and that we eventually sorted it out.
Certainly the names Emanuel and Isaac ring bells but no doubt Alan BOOCOCK will be able to clarify it more.

P.S. Also sorry you spent hours on it.  I know how you feel, having just done the same and ending up a blind alley on another case.
