Hi Joogoo,
It all sounds very interesting. I am very interested in seeing that photo. I don't want to put my private email on the site, is there a way to ask Roots chat to send it somehow? I get notifications of pending messages, so there must be a way?
Did you listen to the tapes made at the International War Museum, as mentioned in the previous replies to this post? This is what I know from my research:
Geoffrey Lehmann's father was Albert Henry Lehmann, a military tailor with a shop in Station Road -Aldershot, Hampshire. His mother was Gertrude Emma Annie Baker born 31-3-1883, Fullham , London. She was a school teacher and a member of the Aldershot Education Committee. Her mother was Sarah Ann Baker and her father was Frederick Baker born 1852 in Surrey.
According to the 1911 census, the family lived at 26 Grosvenor Road, Aldershot, Hampshire.
Geoffrey was 16 when he tried to join the navy at South Hampton. He was sworn in to the RAF office at Cardington, Blackpool. He trained as a flight mechanic Airframes. His squadron's name kept changing, and he was part of the Transport Command in 1946.He was also at Kabrit for six weeks. He was also involved in the Berlin Airlift. He was stationed at Tegel in 1948. He revisited Berlin in 1999 after the war, and was part of a veteran group visit.
I hope this helps. Oh yes, his last position stated on his death certificate was Airworthiness Engineer( Aeronautics) retired. He had been living at Weston-super-mare , and his son Arthur Richard John Lehmann was present at his death.
I look forward to your reply.
