Perrey, Alfred Edward
« on: Wednesday 06 August 14 16:06 BST (UK) »
I have been searching for information on my Grandfather, without any luck.  He was
Alfred Edward Perrey    (Note unusual spelling of surname)
born in 1872
in Warrington, Lancashire.
He went to South Africa when he was in his late 20's.
He was a piano tuner by trade and traveled the country tuning pianos
He married Margaret Cutbush Meek born in South Africa
No marriage date
Margaret died in 1946
Their issue  (Two)
1. Rowland Edward Perrey
born 21 May 1910 in South Africa
    Died 1984 in South Africa
Married Sylvia Dorothy Rossouw in South Africa (no date)
    Has issue.  (One)
    Daughter Joy (no dates)
2. Violet Perrey
Born 18 November 1911 in South Africa
Died in 2007 in South Africa
Married Sydney Edward Christiane in South Africa (no date)
    Had issue  (2)
    1.  Malcolm Xavier Christiane born 1929 in South Africa
    2.  Gloria Christiane -  Living

I have, it feels, turned every stone and come up with no information.  The above  is all that I have.

This appears to be the most likely birth : (from freebmd)

Apr/May/Jun 1871
Warrington
ref 8c 181
Alfred Edward Perry

I wouldnt be too bothered by the exact spelling for an 1872 record. Even modern records can be misindexed!

There is a birth of a Venedora Perry on 22/8/1876 in Warrington on familysearch with parents Alfred & Adelaide Perry.  This could be a sibling.

A very warm welcome to Rootschat

Have you checked South African Records?   www.national.archsrch.gov.za/sm300v/smws/sm300dl

click on link and click on "TAB" (Transvaal Province)
put perry in 1st search box, click search
click on "saved query" then and click on "perry"
click on each entry in turn

This information is not available on line - you have to apply for the documents if required. Not sure what you wd get for your money.

You can also check other repositories returning to initial link

Apr/May/Jun 1871
Warrington
ref 8c 181
Alfred Edward Perry

I'm seeing Albert instead of Alfred on that birth record and I can find him [Albert] on all census until 1911 so can't see it being the correct one :(

Having said that, I can't see another birth that fits on either Freebmd or Cheshirebmd. I've tried searching Perry/Parry and also Edward Alfred. ???

How do you know he was from Warrington, Lancashire?

Sadly, the facts are these:

There does not appear to have ever been a family with the surname Perrey living in Warrington.
There is no birth for an Alfred Edward Perrey in the whole of the UK (besides one born in 1905).
There is no sign of him on 1881 or 1891 census.
There is no listing for him in UK outward passenger lists.

According to an online tree he was born 20/10/1871.

I think you need to do some investigations in South Africa - when did he arrive and under what name, what information is given on his marriage certificate?

Certainly, the information you have to date is just not panning out under Perrey or Perry.
