What does it say after Police Officer please?

Hi

This is James Arundel in 1861 as, it appears, a police officer.  This is odd because in 1851, 1871, 1881 etc he worked as a machine fitter/mechanic.  Just wondering what the words are after Police off...

While I'm here, can anybody possibly think of a reason a mechanic should suddenly become a police officer and then revert to trade??

I agree with Ady, that it is Lancs Cons = Lancashire Constabulary. It would make sense as he's living in Preston, Lancs if I'm not mistaken.

But he is only 24 years old. He possibly had an occupation on the previous census but that's all.

 The original  entry  is over  2 pages  ,  it  appears  that   he got  dismissed from the  Lancs Constabulary  on 13  Jan 1864  for  'having   previously  been  dismissed ( spelling  is  hard to  sort  out   but I  think  that  it says  dismissed)  by  the  Lancs  Constabulary
