Mantles of Sunnybank, Llanbadarn Fynydd
« on: Tuesday 28 June 05 16:23 BST (UK) »
I have the census details for Richard Mantle and his family from 1851-1901. They lived at Sunnybank, Llanbadarn Fynydd. But (and there's always a but), I would like some information about Edward Mantle. Edward's gravestone (at Maes-yr-helem)has the birth date of 1882, Richard died in 1879 but Edward is listed as 'son' on the 1901 census. I suppose he might have been his mother's son, but I've no idea as to his father.
I can't find a bmd entry that looks likely and £7 for a wrong guess is a bit much (spoken like a true Cardie). Any ideas anyone?
Cheers, RuthieB
Any other info about the Mantles of Radnorshire would be welcome!

Just browsing the Radnor board and found your posting for Mantles. I can't help very much but I do have an Edith Mantle (c1890) in my tree she lived in the Dolfor/Black Hill area of Newtown, her father I think was William Mantle who married Jane George of Parbyllwyd, Llanbadarnfynydd.
Regards
David

Hi David,
Thanks for that! I did eventually send off for Edward's birth certificate - the father is not named as I suspected.

I haven't come across any Williams in my line of Mantles, but have had news recently of some in the Newtown area that might be distant relatives, so If I find out, I'll post it here.

Best wishes

Oh my goodness!!!

I live in Lampeter nowadays so not so very far away! Are you related to Edward Davies Mantle?

he was my gg uncle - Sarah Mantle (married to James Lewis then Richard Jones) was my great grandmother.

OOh, this is so exciting!!

Do you have an email adress, as i would be happy to take photos of sunnybank and send them to you. i have never looked back in to the Mantles family history, but will now ask, the only living Mantle from sunnybank, Johnny Mantle, he is my second cousin. my dads auntie married Regianald Mantle, they had two chrildren, Johnny, and Alun, only Alun hung himself in 1976, aged 28.

Hi,
I saw your messages on roots chat and wondered if we may have some family history in common.
In researching my family tree i have come across an ELIZABETH MANTLE and her parents RICHARD MANTLE born 1740 and his Wife CATHERINE STEPHENS born 1743. in the llanbadarn Ffynydd area. Elizabeth married a THOMAS MORGANS and they went on to have a son RICHARD MORGANS born 1798 in the llanbadarn area. Later the family drifted towards Mochdre and Kerry where the Morgans married into the Bowen  and Smouts families. some place names i have found for them are Prysg near Beguildy ane Yerchan (Irchyn) Dolfor. Does any of this ring any bells?

Hi Ruth
Thankyou for replying to me. Yes I would love to see a copy of Richard's birth certificate and photos of the area.
My Nan and her mother were born in Mochdre, and I know that area farely well as I went to school in Newtown. but I now live in yorkshire with my family. I have some photographs of my Nan, her mother, my great great grand Mother (Elizabeth Bowen) if you are interested. I am not familiar with this site. And i'm not sure how to send them to you. Can you help...?

all the best janice
