Birth? marriage? Death?
« on: Saturday 09 August 14 22:17 BST (UK) »
Have never been able to get any info on my great great grandparents besides this scanty bit.

Mr Rush ( first name unknown) born 1830. Married Catherine Mc Graw or Mc Grath. Two children John and Rose Ann. Mr Rush died when John about five which was about 1865.

Catherine may have come from wealth but was disowned for marrying Mr Rush per family lore.

Residence Castlewellan, County Down.

John  worked in mines on Isle of Man at age 12 , eventually came to US and sent for mother and sister.

Would love to get a lead on the specifics of Johns parents names, birth, marriage dates etc.

Can I just stop by to say what an incredible bit of mathematics this is?

That said, good luck with your Irish research  :)

PA Death Certificate:
Rose A CLIFFORD
Died 18 Mar 1932
Age Abt 70
Occupation: Retired
Residence 1030 Lessing, Pittsburgh
Born Ireland
Father: Patrick RUSH, b Ireland
Mother: Catherine McGRAW b Ireland
Informant: John P RUSH, 1030 Lessing
Buried: Calvary Cemetery

So John himself, gave the names of her (his, their) parents here.  The names Peter and Patrick are interchangeable, though 'Patrick' is more Irish and 'Peter' is more Scottish or English.

A question if I may, because I'm not up on these kinds of death certs-
On Rose Ann's death certificate, what does the bit with Margaret DAVEY mean? I assumed on John's this was the name of his wife, but on Rose's shouldn't this bit be the name of her deceased husband?

Ooops! Another well-done spot  ;D
I copied the format, forgot to delete that line on RoseAnn's death. So DAVEY doesn't figure in her death record... the doc didn't name her late husband.  How funny  though...the 1900 Census for her does (incorrectly) suggest  her maiden name was DAVEY!! How weird is that!

(have deleted the error I made on her death transcript)

Ship SS 'State of Florida', departed Glasgow, arrived New York 8 Dec 1882
Cath RUSH 50, H'wife
Ros RUSH 21
Citizens of Ireland, Intending to become Citizens of the USA
Passengers in Steerage, 1 piece of Luggage

So Catherine b abt 1832 and Rose abt 1861 according to this manifest.

I realise you probably have most of this Celticvirgo, however -  especially when heading towards Ireland for research, every bit of  information  may be a clue.
