William Sewell - Died 1853 - Middleham, Leyburn - Burial Location
« on: Tuesday 12 August 14 22:52 BST (UK) »
Hi

I'm trying to find the burial location for a William Sewell. The information that I have about him is as follows:

William Sewell
Died - 24/11/1853
Location of death - Middleham
Age 80 (according to the 1851 census)
Born - 1773
Occupation - Regimental quarter-master with 4th regiment of Light Dragoons

I'm not familiar with the area and have no idea how many graveyards there could be, but came across one site that said there were four. Any help would be much appreciated.

Carole

You are an absolute gem. About two hours after I posted the request, I came across an entry from the National Burial Index which showed his age as 85, as well as another site listing him as 83. St Alkelda & St Mary was the one 'named' church I could find, but not who was there.

My brother will be over the moon with this information, as well as annoyed, as he had already spent ages obtaining information on William Sewell, only for me to then tell him it was the wrong one.

Once again, thank you very much indeed.

Thank you so much. I will forward this info onto my brother which will make it easier for him to find it in November. Out of curiosity, did you get this information from an online source or from the headstone itself? Would you have a picture of what it looks like?

I am so sorry I didn't reply sooner - life took over!!

I got the information from a copy of transcribed MIs. I don't have a photo but the transcription does say the table tomb is in an 'enclosed area, South West of the porch door'

Hope this helps

Cheers

No need to apologise at all. The additional information however is fantastic. Once again, thank you.
