Barney O'Kane of Garvagh
« on: Wednesday 13 August 14 14:11 BST (UK) »
Looking for family info, my gr grandfather was William John O'Kane, born Dec 31 1864, emigrated to US in 1885, lived in Boston, was a fireman. What I understand is his parents were Bernard "Barney" O'Kane and Elizabeth Quig, who lived in Garvagh area, their church was in Glenullin. They had 3 sons - James, Hugh, William J. and 5 daughters - Kate, Elizabeth, Sarah, Martha, Mary. Their farm was later taken over by a neighbor named Nickels. Any info on Barney and his parents etc. This is my first post. Thank you.

Thank you, there was no knowledge in my generation that William's siblings had also come to Boston.

Hi I'm also trying to find information on William o'kane from garvagh, on what i can find he was a solicitor and died aged 84 born in 1870 and died in 1954 and he had a brother  called Rev. DR. Bernard. o'kane, who died in 1939. William o'kane was survived by his wife who was a well-known figure in  the amateur drama world as a play wright and has 4 daughters.

Could any one help me?

Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

Yes, what would you like to know?

William O'Kane, solicitor, lived at "The Hermitage" in Garvagh. He married Sarah Kerr (born 2 Sept.1876 at "Millfield" Glenkeen outside Garvagh), daughter of John Kerr & Annie Glenn. I think there were possibly 6 daughters.
