searching for descendants of Thomas Flynn B c1790 Galway, who married Bridget Lally C1829 ( Bridget was born C 1810 in Moystown, Offaly (previously King's County)), her parents were John Lally & Mary O'Rourke.  They had 9 children Mary, Ann, Patrick, Catherine (Kate), John, Bridget, Thomas, James & Elizabeth, all born in early 1830's up to 1858.  Mary & Ann migrated to USA & settled in the Massachusetts area marrying John Lyons & Matthew T Ward respectively.  Patrick & Kate migrated to Australia C1857 & then the rest of the family, except for Thomas senior, came to Australia in 1871 aboard the ship Western Empire.  I have found where all of them ended up in Australia & USA but would love to find someone in Ireland who may something else about the family.

Hi,

I would love to know if I am related to this Lally family or not. My Lally ancestors lived 10-15 miles north of Moystown, towards Athlone, in the the mid to late 1800's before my great grandfather's family moved to Athlone town in about 1904.

Are you descended from Thomas Flynn & Bridget Lally yourself?

Kind regards,

James Lally.

Hello James
Good to hear from you.  Yes I am descended from them, I am their great great grand daughter & have managed to trace all of the family descended from them to here in Australia & in USA.  I have been to Ireland chasing up the Lally family but cannot discover anything.  I have been to many churches & checked their records but to no avail, visited many cemeteries but not anything to match in with my vague knowledge.  I've been to Ballinsaloe but was unable to spend enough time checking thru all records.
Would love to investigate with you.

Hi Genevieve,

many thanks for your reply.

There are Lally's that still live near the Moystown area today, in places such as Bannagher, Birr, & Ferbane. I know that some of their families have been there since the 1800's at least.

I have wondered if my ancestor, my great great great grandfather John Lally, came from that area too, but I have been unable to find a connection so far. All I know is that John Lally married in the parish of Kilcleagh, Co. Westmeath in 1859 to Anne Lynch (no father's names or address on the marriage record). Her family appear to have had a farm at Fardrum, Co. Westmeath and it seems that John & Anne lived there too. That is all I know about John Lally, I don't where or when he was born or even where or when he died. (I found Anne's death record but nothing for John).

Because of where Fardrum is situated then it is possible he could have been born in Westmeath, Roscommon, Longford, Offaly, or Galway, so it is very hard to find out any more about him at this stage.

I live in England, I would love to go to Ireland and be able spend a lot of time looking around for more information about my Lally's and the other Lally's that came from Westmeath & Offaly. Maybe there are gravestones in a cemetery there somewhere that might offer some clues.

We have a Lally Group on Facebook that has a lot of interesting information: https://www.facebook.com/groups/103487680390/

Kind regards,

James.
