Liddell/Liddle & Brooks
« on: Friday 22 August 14 05:22 BST (UK) »
Can anyone tell me the connection with these families?  I believe a Liddell/Liddle family (Mark & Susannah, nee Middleton) lived in Seaton Sluice sometime in the early 1900's.  My query is where is the connection with the Liddell/Liddle & Brooks family?  I have a wedding photo of Mark & Susannah's daughter Ethel and a 2nd cousin and a 3rd cousin also have this same photo and we haven't been able to find the connection with the Brooks family.

marriages
1894 mar qtr Mark Jobson Liddle to Susannah Middleton - Hexam 10b 403

Seaton Sluice is 31 miles from Hexam , so presumably the couple moved to Seaton Sluice after the marriage ...I will see if I can find them in 1901 census
ADDED...they are in Chirton ,Northumberland in1901 census and Mark Jobson Liddle was born 1864 in Newburn ,Northumberland

Susannah was born in Mickley ,Northumberland in 1873

Chirton to Seaton Sluice is 6.7 miles ...so less than 7 miles away

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

A family tree with the family on Ancestry lists their daughter Olive Liddell's (born 1909) middle name as Brooks.  Are you trying to find out where her middle name came from?

Hello Lulu welcome to Rootschat,

There is this record on family search which may help a little bit :)
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XWMV-L4V.

You can find Mark J and family on Ancestry's 1911 census.

I'm wondering if Brooks could be Mark or Susannah's mother's maiden name but I haven't yet been able to find anything to support that theory.

Mark was baptised 19 Jul 1863 at St Michael's and all Angels Newburn parents George and Elizabeth.
I haven't yet found a baptism for Susannah :(

According to baptism record on Freereg Mark Jobson's parents were as I said in previous post George and Elizabeth.
All other baptism's for children of this couple and census records going back to 1861 name his mother as Mary.
A possible transcription error by Freereg?

Wow, thanks for all your responses.
Kay99 - I have been able to sort out the family members and was aware of Olive's middle name being Brooks. This is why I am trying to find the connection with the families. In my Grandfather's (Henry Brooks) possessions is a card and it is signed by Olive Brooks Liddle. There is also 2 letters/postcards from Ethel. Henry fought in WW1 and I think he might have visited the family while in England recovering from injuries.
heatherjulie - is it possible that the marriage of John G Liddle & Mary Brooks, that G stands for George and Mary's other name could have been Elizabeth?
The Brooks family I am related to, lived in Gateshead. Great grandfather George Brooks was born 1852 in Tuddenham and great grandmother Margaret Auther was born 1854 in Mickley.
