Will of William Fuller d 1796
« on: Sunday 24 August 14 05:10 BST (UK) »
Help! My eyes are going crazy trying to decipher the attached will. I have tried to decipher the beginning but it took me forever and I'm not sure I am on the right track. This will belongs to my 4x great grandfather, William Fuller, who died on 6 Dec 1796. I found the will on Ancestry on England & Wales, Prerogative Court of Canterbury Wills, 1384-1858.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

cheers
Jill

We’re not encouraged to post complete documents on here, for copyright reasons. It might be best to remove the images, have a go at transcribing yourself, and then post smaller images of any sections that you need help with. There are always plenty of people willing to help.

As far as I can remember ...

Log in, go back to your first post, click Modify (top right), expand the Attachments section below the message, select Clear Attachment, then Save.

If I'm wrong, someone else will no doubt advise  :)

Jilly, I have done the first section to help you get started.  These wills aren't too hard once you understand some unusual letter forms - particularly the "c" which looks to modern eyes like an "r".

In the Name of God Amen
I william ffuller of Richmond in the County
of Surry Butter Dealer being of sound and
disposing mind memory and understanding
thanks be to God for it Do make publish and
declare this my last Will and Testament in
manner and form following (that is to say) I
first and principally commend my soul into
the hands of Almighty God my Creator and
my body to the Earth to be decently interred
at the discretion of my Executors hereinafter
named And as to my worldly Estate or Effects
the which I may possess at the time of my
decease I dispose as followeth namely that
after all my Just Debts and ffuneral expences
and the expences of proving this my Will be
fully paid and discharged I then give devise
and Bequeath unto my loving wife Hannah
ffuller All and singular my Copyhold Estate
or Estate whatsoever and wheresoever situate

The short line under the end of the word "Estate" in the last line indicates that the copyist was following the exact content of the original, despite the grammatical error.  Clearly "Estates" was intended.
