birth certificate
« on: Monday 25 August 14 19:49 BST (UK) »
I am doing really well and suddenly my aunty Kathleen - tivendale wood or burke does not seem to have a birth certificate. there seems to be a family mystery around her as there seems to have been a divorce or something similar. She said she was born in 1922 in Newton le Willows, Lancs. She died in 1986
her siblings are Joan and a brother and was married to Arthur Laurence burke 1910-2000.
Kathleen's mum, Emilia had an affair with Stan Carradus. One big mess!! any ideas ??

Hello and welcome,

There is an Edwin Tivendale Wood b Birkenhead 1892
This marriage looks quite likely

1912 Birkenhead Edwin T Wood and Amelia Hobson are on the same page.

Births Mabel J and Neil with these names - does this ring any bells

FreeBMD has the following marriage:

Jun 1964
Amelia TIVENDALE-WOOD and William S. CARRODUS
Birkenhead

Interestingly, the first recorded instance of the hyphenated TIVENDALE-WOOD surname on the GRO indexes is Kathleen's 1941 marriage.

There are two other TIVENDALE-WOOD marriages (both registered in Birkenhead):  Neil G. in 1945 (with Alan G. born in 1947) and Kenneth in 1949 (with Barry K. born in 1954).

Do you have the full names (forename and surname) of Kathleen's two siblings, Joan and a brother?

Do you have Kathleen and Arthur's marriage certificate, as this should name her father?

Further thoughts ...

Have you checked out the following birth registrations:

Blackburn RD (Lancashire) - Dec 1922 - Kathleen MARSDEN (mmn HOBSON)
Wortley RD (West Riding of Yorkshire) - Mar 1921 - Kathleen HOBSON (mmn HOBSON)

If Kathleen's birth was as a result of an extra-marital affair, then it's possible that she was registered with her mother's maiden name (or possibly maternal grandmother's maiden name - MARSDEN?) and away from her home locality.  (I have just this scenario in my husband's family tree!)

Edwin and Amelia had three children - Mabel J.T. WOOD, Kenneth T. WOOD and Neil G. WOOD.

However, having searched extensively, I can find no birth record for Kathleen.  I wonder if Edwin agreed to bring her up as his own but drew the line at having his name put on the birth certificate, so Amelia then decided not to register the birth?

After Edwin's death in 1959, Amelia married Stanley CARRODUS (see my previous posting).  In some online family trees he's referred to as William Stanley Butler CARRODUS.
