WOODS Norfolk and Suffolk
« on: Tuesday 26 August 14 13:47 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone......I have been researching my family above for many years, sort of brick-walled it now. Anyone else looking for WOODS family members we can help each other with?

Female line names in the family appear to include: - Cooper, Moore, Stone, Spink, Long, Abbotts, Hancock and Batchelor.

Thanks All  ;D
paternal- WOODS, COOPER, STONE, SPINK, ABBOTTS, HANCOCK, TROTT and DOMINEY.
maternal - BATCHELOR, MASON, PARADINE, MAUNDERS, HOLMES, ANDREWS, COOPER and BARBER.

Welcome to rootschat egeriaboy.

It might help if you can be a bit more specific -eg whereabouts in Norfolk/Suffolk did your Woods family live? Can you tell us some names and dates of birth, marriage etc?

Are you looking specifically for Woods ancestors or do you need help with your research?

At the bottom of the page in the dark box under "Your Tools" you will see 'Surname Interests' - add your names of interest to the list, and also check to see if any other members are researching the same names as you.

Good luck.

Thanks - Yes - the main areas of WOODS' seem to be Ditchingham, Harleston, Mendham, Hedenham in South East Norfolk and Waveney Valley. I started with Enoch b.1772 and Hannah Moore who married in Ditchingham 1800 they had son William b.1810 m Sarah Stone they had son Charles b.1842 m Elizabeth Spink they had son Alfred b.1872 m Lydia Abbotts. Each generation had 8-10 children and their names carried through, making it all very confusing.
paternal- WOODS, COOPER, STONE, SPINK, ABBOTTS, HANCOCK, TROTT and DOMINEY.
maternal - BATCHELOR, MASON, PARADINE, MAUNDERS, HOLMES, ANDREWS, COOPER and BARBER.

I see you have now added your Woods to the surname interests table.  :)

So are you now hoping to get back further than Enoch? Is he your brick wall?

Enoch Woods yes.........I have a sneaky suspicion that his parents were Amos Woods of Harleston 1726-1785 and Catherine Cooper 1738-1811, who were married by licence in Mendham March 1771.....although I have no direct proof of that, because I suspect both of these were previously married and I'm not sure who is related to who.

Supplementary to my earlier posts, I have now researched my male WOODS line back definitively now to Amos Woods 1726-85 and Catharine Cooper who married by licence in Mendham Suffolk March 14 1771. Catharine already had had 5 children (between 1762-70 probably by Amos) and after 1771 they went on to have 5 more (between 1772-78). Their son Enoch b. 1772 is my x4 great grandfather.

I have the WOODS line fairly well documented in South Norfolk and North Suffolk to date, so if anyone can't find their WOODS for the trees, let me know :)

maternal - BATCHELOR, MASON, PARADINE, MAUNDERS, HOLMES, ANDREWS, COOPER and BARBER.
