BT WiFi FON hijacking connection to tablet.
« on: Friday 29 August 14 15:25 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I`m having problems trying to connect my new Asus tablet to my internet provider (Talktalk). It  was at the top of a list of providers on the tablet when I first tried to connect so I certainly didn`t think there would be any problems..
However, each time I try to click on Talktalk - BT Wi FON  the second name on the list -  - moves up to first place and you end up clicking on that instead.

Any ideas how to get rid of the hi-jacking horror that seems determined to force me to use it.

TIA Jay.

Do you have the option to forget connections? If so try clicking that to get rid of the ones you don't want.

Probably long press on the network name and on the popup select "Forget Network"

Many thanks groom -  it`s worked ! :)

However,  I`m now  trying Talktalk  but   getting  the message `Authentication problem. :'(
Any ideas again, please.
Jay.
PS I`m a total newbie on a tablet, so please bear with me.

Why don't you set it to automatically connect each time you start the tablet.

Thanks Midase, but that doesn`t work.
The message `Authentication failed` from Talktalk means I can`t get any connection at all via their network, although signal strength is excellent and there`s no problems with WPA (whatever that is)!

Ive just tried Googling  and there are just so many complaints online, apparently-" because it`s an Android device." ;D
I did try Talktalk for help at the start and during online chat with an advisor was asked what the tablet system was. The mention of Android saw me quickly fobbed off with a help email which was no use whatsoever.

Try turning off your router and then turn off wireless on your tablet. Turn the router on and wait a few minutes, then turn on the wireless on the tablet and see if it works. You may have to tell it to forget the network first.

Just as double check. Can you have a friend with a tablet come round and attempt to connect with it.

Thanks again, groom.  Turning off router and tablet wireless didn`t work :'(.

Thanks again Midase. None of my friends  have a tablet or computer. :'(
At least  I `ve got a sorry saga  to bore them rigid with. ;)
Possibly the moral of this tale is avoid Android devices unless you`re a real techie who loves whiling away the  hours problem solving. ;D
Much appreciated,
Jay

I've got a Kindle Fire tablet, which is Android based, & all I had to do to connect to my network (also TalkTalk) was to enter the router password.

So, just to check  ;D are you sure you are entering the correct password? My router has two, & I've been caught more than once by entering the wrong one when trying to connect a new device  ;D
