Northumberland; Bebside Baptism for Beecroft
« on: Friday 29 August 14 17:42 BST (UK) »
Hi, I recently found out that one of my ancestors, Margaret Beecroft, had an illegitimate child named Margaret Ann, who was born on the 11th February 1881 in the village of Bebside. There was no fathers name on the Birth Certificate. In the 1881 census Margaret is 21 years old and living at home with her family with Margaret Ann being listed as Granddaughter to the head of house (Margaret's Parents - Henry and Margaret Beecroft), in 1891 she is listed as being her Grandparent's daughter. I was wondering if the christening for Margaret Ann would list the name of her father? And where would I go to find it? Any help would be greatly appreciated  :)

Hi and welcome to Rootschat

It would be very unlikely that her fathers name would be on any baptismal record if it's not on her birth cert.

Very rarely - an illegitimate child may find her biological father in later life and name him on her marriage cert.  However, if Margaret did show a father and his surname is Beecroft (likeliest scenario) then she will have been like many illegitimate children and made him up so as to appear "respectable"
