Unit: 2/10th Field Company Royal Field Engineers
Place of death: South China Sea
Cause of death: Died at sea (Rakuyo Maru)
A prisoner of war he died whilst being transported to Japan as slave labour.  The ship, transporting goods as well as prisoners, was not marked with a Red Cross and was torpedoed by an American submarine.  He is remembered on the Labuan Memorial in Malaysia.

He was the son of Daniel George Aust and Selina Ann Margaretta Hall and was born in Maldon, Victoria 20 November 1905.  He was my second cousin once removed.
