Drowning off South Stack 1923
« on: Tuesday 02 September 14 19:42 BST (UK) »
Hi,
My ancestor Richard Seed b. 1884, from Preston Lancs,  was (apparently) drowned in a boating accident off South Stack, Anglesey, in July/August 1923. His body was found Aug 10 at Formby, and I believe it could have been washed up there?  I'm looking for any other info - perhaps newspaper reports?  The relevant newspapers would be in Welsh?
Also any info re the Preston Seed connection with Anglesey - I believe one, Matilda Seed, married a Richard Prichard there in the early 1900's.

Thanks for any help!

Hi

and welcome to RootsChat  :)

Have found one record

Yorkshire Post and Leeds Intelligence - Monday 13 August 1923

With the recovery of the body of Mr Richard Seed which was washed ashore last Saturday at Formby, the sea has given up the third and last victim of the yachting disaster near Rhyll on July 26. Mr Seed was 39 yrs old and a haulage contractor of University Road Bootle. The body of Sydney Herbert Cooke of Hightown near Formby was recovered at Prestatyn not far from the boat, which is believed to have capsized during heavy squalls. The body of Mr John Bulman of Hightown was found by his brother on the shore at Ainsdales about 6miles from where Mr Seeds body was washed ashore.

Thank you so much for the info - I had tried the newspaper archive, but thought it would be in the Welsh or Lancashire papers.
What a great result form my first posting!  i hope i can return the favour some day soon!

Richard's wife was known in the family as 'Talcy'.  The Probate identifies her as Alice.  There is a marriage to Alice Iddon in the marriage index, which took place at Preston 1912 which could be her.  I'm trying to narrow it down more precisely - there are a lot of Richard Seeds in Lancashire!
