A more accurate birth year would help. Have you found him on the 1901 Scotland Census ?

Jock will be a pet name and could stand for anything.

My next door neighbour is a Scot whose real name is James, everyone calls him Jock.

My dad's boss was a Scot whose real name was George and again everyone called him Jock.

Hi,

Thanks for the message - we really need more information - you say he was the oldest child - can you give us the names or birth years of the others so that we can find them on Scotland Census ?
