Union House, Milton, Portsea, Hampshire
« on: Friday 05 September 14 17:27 BST (UK) »
Mary Elizabeth Taplin, gave birth to Alfred Charles in April 1882 at the subject address.
Somehow, I wish to know the name of the father.  It's not on the Birth Certificate.
I was wondering if the Union House kept records of such details, and if so, how can I see details of these records?
Perhaps someone out there can help me please.

Highly unlikely to be any record.
Unless Mary named him on any surviving document (birth cert or christening) then you will not know who he was.

If any workhouse records survived they are likely to be at the local archives recordoffice, a google will probably find it for you. But unlikely to have recorded who Mary said was her babys father.

The workhouse in Milton was attached to St Marys hospital. Think they washed the laundry from the hospital at the workhouse.

Here is a photograph of it.

The name Alfred Charles Taplin came up on another thread a few years back - if its not you, you may have a contact.

Sandra - thanks for the 'thread' from Robert.  It isn't me, but I'll follow it up.
