Leadbetter/Adams North Meols disappearance
« on: Tuesday 09 September 14 00:47 BST (UK) »
Annie Elizabeth Leadbetter was born in 1877 to Edward Leadbetter and Mary Hibbert, baptised at Kirkby on 9 December; she married Thomas Samuel Adams (born Southport 1874), in Liverpool in 1897 (or the marriage was registered in Liverpool). In 1898 their daughter Violet Isabel(le) is born on 25 September at Halsall and at the 1901 census they are living at 29 Maple Street Southport (Thomas is butcher's clerk). After that they seem to disappear. Can’t find them in the 1911 census, in deaths, or in shipping records , or a marriage for Violet. No further births on Freebmd or LancsOPC. Can anyone suggest where else I can search? Any help in finding them would be greatly appreciated. Fran

Thanks Kay99, sadly that's another Violet. I paid to see the image feeling sure that must be her, but no, different parents. Thanks for looking anyway, Fran

If anyone is looking for them in the latest census available on Ancestry or The Genealogist, they are not indexed as Adams. Both have the family transcribed (rather amusingly)  as "Thomas Head", "Annie Wife" and "Violet Daughter".

FindMyPast has it right and here is the link (for subscribers) http://search.findmypast.co.uk/record/browse?id=GBC%2f1911%2fRG14%2f22850%2f0217

Great spot, ShaunJ!

I have added amendments on Ancestry, so they should be easier to find now!? ;D

There are 20 families mistranscribed in this way on Ancestry. I have started to work through the corrections..

Thanks a lot, Kay99, ShaunJ, KGarrad and Garstonite, I never would have thought of searching under given names only, even though I must admit I have found another family member listed as surname "wife" in the 1901 census. A good trick to remember for future searches. Again, thanks so much.
