Removing noise, dirt and other patterns from old photos
« on: Wednesday 10 September 14 14:17 BST (UK) »
Hi,
Having used GIMP2.8 to enhance b/w photos by adjusting levels and manually using the clone and heal tool I'd like to tackle the problem of removing dirt lines or other discernible patterns overlying areas of interest such as people and buildings in a manner where I can pick and choose the settings and see the potential response etc.

I tried a FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) add on but the view of the transformed photo in the frequency domain is not simple to interpret to say the least. Any suggestions appreciated?
