Ellards Of County Cork
« on: Friday 19 September 14 11:43 BST (UK) »
Hello, I am looking for any information about the Ellard family from County Cork.

Our family story is that my great, great grandmother an Ellen Ellard (we are pretty sure it was Ellen) was born (abt 1840) to a well to do family who raised race horses. These Ellards were probably based around Mallow, Buttevant, or Churchtown, Cork, Ireland. The Ellards had strong links to Boston USA, supposedly their horses were sold to The Americans.

Ellen ended up estranged from her family due to the fact that she fell in love with and married the family coachman. Her husband was either called Cornelius or Patrick Healy (probably Cornelius).
By the mid 1870s they had at least two children Mary Anne (possibly born 1865) and Ellie (possibly born 1871). There also could be two other children; a son Patrick and a daughter Margaret, however Ellie and Margaret could be one and the same.

By 1892 Cornelius/Patrick had passed away, and Ellie and Mary Anne were living in London where they married two brothers, both Coulters.

There also could be a link with a Bridget Ellard, my great grandfather (Ellie's husband) copied the following article into his notebook in 1909:

'Lloyds weekly march 14th 1909
Relations of Bridget Ellard, who married John Mullane, a Cooper, about 1835. May benefit by applying to De Bernardy Ho 25 Bedford Row, London WC'

Taking the dates into account Bridget could be Ellen's sister, or cousin.

Any information would be gratefully received, I know that there was a few separate Ellard families living in Cork during the mid 1800s, but maybe some one might know of some specific details in regards to Ellen and her family.

Very many thanks for taking the time to read this post.

 Regards - John
