My Great Grandfather is a bit of an enigma, born and brought up in Liverpool  and marrying a Liverpool woman he worked as a ships cook,
However around about 1915 he moved his family to Bristol whilst continuing to serve in the Merchant Navy, he remained in Bristol till his death in 1930 ,( My Grandfather remained behind in Liverpool ), unfortunatly i dont know the reason for his move to Bristol wich would seem highly unusual in those days, also his Burial service was at St Mary Redcliffe in Bristol althougth he lived in the Parish of St George,
Can anyone shed any light on these conundrums ?

Would the move have anything to do with WW1?

Could you post the name of William's wife  and children?

Thanks Williams wife was Ada who died in Bristol in 1931 his daughter was Ethel later Ethel hurst
Re Ww1 he was a merchant ships cook and before the war had sailed out of Liverpool so I can't see any reason for him to change Ports ! Also were he lived in Bristol was some distance from the Docks

Presumably he changed jobs - working for a Bristol based shipping line?
Any idea who he worked for?

Also, where did he live in Bristol?
Bristol has/had docks in the City (Floating Harbour), at Avonmouth, at Portishead, and probably other places!

Does his death certificate give his occupation? Was he still a cook or a retired Merchant Navy cook? He may just have moved for a better job and life.

Ada was 59 when she died in 1931 - so born 1871 - 1872.....

there are no marriages in Liverpool .....are you sure Ada was a Liverpool girl as you stated in your first post ??
and I cant find a marriage for Ethel Wainwright to Hurst /Hirst  ??
